Subsidies of up to EUR 7,000 for the purchase of electric vehicles will be available from 25 June
The Basque Government will launch the Moves III 2025 Plan, which will allocate EUR 14.9 million to support electric mobility and the purchase of cars and recharge points.
The Basque Government will publish on Wednesday the basis of the new programme of aid for sustainable mobility Moves III 2025, which will make it possible to apply for subsidies of up to EUR 7,000 per electric vehicle from 25 June through the website of the Basque Energy Organization (EVE).
In total, the programme has a budget of EUR 14.9 million and is divided into 8.4 million for the purchase of new or demonstration electric vehicles and 6.5 million for the installation of charging points, which is expected to allow for an additional 2 000 electric vehicles in the Basque Country.
Individuals may use the call retroactively and apply it to purchases made after 1 January 2025, and in the case of companies such retroactivity will not be valid.
The previous car will not necessarily be scrap, but if it is scrap, the amount of the subsidy is higher, so if the new vehicle replaces the old scrap car, the aid will be up to EUR 7 000 per car.
As far as electric charging is concerned, the facilities will be able to receive up to 70% of the cost and will have higher percentages in specific groups, such as taxi drivers and residents of municipalities with less than 5,000 inhabitants. The aid is intended for individuals, self-employed persons, companies, public administrations and landowners' communities, the latter for the construction of trunk preinstallations in community garages.
Councilor Mikel Jauregi Industria has stressed that the aim of this measure is to facilitate access to less polluting vehicles and to support the automotive sector in the ACV, which generates 40,000 jobs. "Transport in the Basque Country generates 35% of greenhouse gas emissions.
Moves III 2025 will not be compatible with the Lower Emissions Vehicle Program that has been in operation since April. The EGI program has already processed 600 files, albeit with less impact on the van area, according to the Chief Executive himself.
In the last Movement, 18,000 applications were approved, 7,800 were granted for the purchase of cars and 6,700 for the establishment of cargo points.
