Trump's tariffs would affect around 400 million in the Basque Country, and about 73 million in Navarre
Because of exports from the two territories, the trade war would have different consequences in Hego Euskal Herria. The sectors most affected are automotive, machine tool, steel and wine.
The automotive industry would be one of the worst hit by tariffs.
The new tariffs promoted by U.S. President Donald Trump would have a different impact on Hego Euskal Herria . so the impact would be greater in the Basque Autonomous Community, with an overcost of around 400 million, while it would be around 73 million in Navarre.
In the Basque Country, more than 1,000 companies export their products to the United States, with sales of about 2 billion, 6.4% of all foreign sales. In Navarre, on the other hand, there are 500 companies selling their products to the American giant. In the latter case, there are 360 million exports, only 3.5% of the total.
The sectors most affected by the new tariff system are automotive, machine tool, steel and wine (both wine from Rioja Alavesa and txakoli), as the General Representative of Álava, Ramiro González, has said.
A severe blow to Basque wine dabecause, with 36 million, the United States is the first recipient in revenue and the second in volume. Even in the automotive sector, the Basque Country exports more than 60 million vehicles and components.
