200 mayors and people's representatives will hold an event in Bilbao to denounce the latest ruling against the Euskera
Convened by the Council of Basque Culture, representatives of different parties and sensitivities will meet at 11 a.m. at the gates of the High Court of Justice of the Basque Country in order to respond jointly to the Supreme Court's latest ruling on the Basque language.
More than 200 mayors and representatives of different parties and sensitivities from Álava, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa will hold today in Bilbao the event convened by the Council of Basque Culture "in defence of the Basque Country", in which they will denounce, among other things, the Supreme Court's ratification of the annulment of various articles of the Municipal Law.
The appointment will be at the gates of the High Court of Justice of the Basque Country at 11:00 a.m.
The Council considers the judgment to be "extremely serious" and considers that, in compliance with VOX and ratified by the decision of the High Court of Justice of the Community, the Supreme Court obstructs the normalization ofthe Basque Country and limits the language policy democratically pursued by the municipalities.
In the opinion of Euskalgintza, society broadly supports the policies of normalization, and consequently the ruling "calls into question both the self-government of the Basque institutions and the will of Basque society".
In this context, and on the basis of the joint response, more than 200 mayors and elected municipalities, parties and sensitivities from Araba, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa, as well as the main representatives of the Basque culture, will take part in a joint event in defence of the Basque Country.
