The Board of the Guggenheim Bilbao Museum Foundation held a meeting last night at the museum in Bilbao, chaired by its president, Imanol Pradales, the first to do so since themuseum's general director, Mira Arzalluz, took office in April.
The meeting presented the exhibition programme that the museum is preparing for 2026, including monographic exhibitions for four prominent artists representing modern and contemporary art.
The second will be a retrospective on Jasper Johns, who reformed the American plastic arts scene in the 1950 "s, 1960" s and 1970 "s. On the other hand, in October, the Guggenheim will present an exhibition starring Steve McQueen, an artist, film director and screenwriter who immerses himself in universal themes and hard biographies through moving images.
Finally, at an exhibition to be opened in the last quarter of 2025, they have announced the modification of the works of the Museum Collection that are in public view, showing a selection of the works that have recently been included in the collection, some of which have been donated from the D. Daskalopoulos Collection and some of the pieces that the Rodenstock collection has borrowed in the long term.
On the other hand, some data on this year's event have also been mentioned at the meeting. Until 10 June, the Guggenheim has received 476,795 visitors, 29% more than planned for this period and 7% more than in 2023, the year in which the museum had the largest number of visitors in its history.
