The Basque Government will promote a new Diaspora Act in 2026 to adapt to current challenges
The aim is to take advantage of the presence of Basques abroad and to include in this network all those who may be interested in the "Global Euskadi" strategy as diplomatic agents.
The Basque Governmentwill forward totheBasque Parliament next year a draft Diaspora Law , in order to adapt the current 1994 regulations to the new times and thus respond to the new needs of the Basque community living outside the Basque Country. "We need a law adapted to the current internal and external context.
Pradales has made this announcement at a seminar organized by the University of Boise to reflect on the challenges of the diaspora. In this context, the president believes that it is time to renew the ways and tools to work torespondto the new realities of the Basque community abroad.
In this regard, the aim is to take advantage of the presence of Basque citizens abroad and to include in the "Global Euskadi" strategy all those persons who are essential assets as diplomatic agents. Another of the objectives of this regulation is to place the Basque Country at the forefront of attention to the Basque community abroad.
Thus, it is intended to put people at the centre in order to connect the Basque Country with the most advanced ecosystems and networks worldwide and to help us find new opportunities around the world.
The Lehendakari has praised the current Diaspora Act, which has servedto compact the international Basque community , in collaboration with the Basque Centres eta Fedaciones n. However, Pradales has stressed that "the current diaspora has changed, is diverse, and new circumstances require new steps."
In this context, the lehendakari has stated that "Euskadimust take a new leap in the international arena "and work to make the"Euskadi Global"strategy a reality. " In the Basque Country we are prepared to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the international context to be a European protagonist in the future of Europe and in the restof theworld.
