Tension is highest in the South China Sea, at the crossroads of defense and military power
If there is a risk of collision between U.S. and Chinese forces, that is the South China Sea. Beijing claims these waters by drawing a nine-point line, including Taiwan, part of the Philippines and the islets it has built artificial islands. This clashes with the sovereignty of several countries, such as the Philippines, Vietnam or Malaysia.
