Ryanair has reduced the number of flights at Foronda airport by 2% in winter and will leave the airports of Santiago, Vigo and Tenerife
Ryanair has flights to Alicante, Brussels, Malaga, Milan, Palma de Mallorca and Seville at Foronda airport. This adjustment measure will result in the loss of more than one million seats, in addition to the other 800,000 lost during the summer season.
Ryanairwill reduce its flight capacity by 2% at Foronda-Vitoria Airportas part of its strategy to reduce its winter operating capacity by 16% throughout the Spanish state, leaving the airports of Santiago, Vigo and northern Tenerife.
This adjustment measure will result in the lossof more than one million seats, in addition to the remaining 800,000 lost during the summer season.
Ryanair has flights to Alicante, Brussels, Malaga, Milan, Palma de Mallorca and Seville at Foronda airport.
It is the only company currently operating in Foronda, but from 1 November a new company beste, Volotea (with flights to Madrid and Barcelona), will enter after winning the competition for the 4.4 million euros contract of the company promoting the VIA Vitoria airport.
Ryanair started operating in Foronda in 2016 and signed an agreement with VIA last July until 2028.
Airport rates are "excessive and uncompetitive"
The Irish company will reduce its capacity by 41% at Spanish airportsby (600,000 seats) and 10% in the Canary Islands (400,000) due to Aena airport rates. Ryanair considers them "excessive and uncompetitive," Ryanair CEO Eddie Willson said at a press conference.
