Basque pensioners will demonstrate on the 20th, after the government rejected the EPA on pension supplements
The pensioners of the Basque Country will demonstrate on the 20th in favour of equating pensions with the minimum wage.
The Basque Pensioners' Movement will demonstrate on 20 September in the three capitals of the Basque Autonomous Community (CAV) to protest against the decision of the Basque Government to give an opinion against the consideration of the People's Legislative Initiative (HEL) to supplement pensions up to the minimum wage (SMI).
Representatives of the platform have appeared before journalists this Friday in the Basque Parliament to announce the forthcoming protests. During the press conference, they displayed a banner reading "145,142 signatures" , referring to the accessions they have gathered to support their initiative.
Thus, Basque pensioners will demonstrate on Saturday20 September in Bilbao (Sacred Heart, 18:00), Donostia(Boulevard, 12:00) and Gasteiz(Artium Square, 12:00).
They will also express their opposition to the decision of the Basque Government at the weekly rallies on Monday, which will resume next week after the summer break, and another major protest in Vitoria on the 25th.
"It is shameful that the Basque Governmentsacrificesthe interests of thousands of vulnerable people through negotiations or interests that are being discussed in other areas. We will firmly defend our reasons for the fairness, necessity and urgency of this proposal, "said one of its spokespersons.
"It is not only a question of preventing the poverty and social exclusion of pensioners, but also of ensuring sufficient income to meet basic expenditure, such as food, health and housing," they stress.
"It is unacceptable tosay that there are not enough economic resources for the most precarious pensioners, while for large companies hundreds of millions of euros lost are distributed, "the Basque Pensioners' Movement has pressed.
