The Department of Education has presented a budget of 3,346 million, highlighting staff and inclusion programmes
The Department of Education of theBasque Government will have a budget of €3,346.5 million in 2026, 3% higher than this year's. Begoña Pedrosa, Education Counsellor, presented this Tuesday afternoon in the Basque Parliament the draft accounts of her Department and highlighted areas such as the increase in staff and the amount to be allocated to inclusion programmes, infrastructure and vocational training.
In the Councillor's speech, these budgets are intended to "strengthen essential public services, focusing on the real problems of citizens".
Pedrosa has stressed that the allocation for staff will increase by 4.84% compared to 2025. This money will be used to "improve working conditions and strengthen staff". He has explained that for this course more than 700 places have been created in public schools to meet challenges such as diversity, language needs, reception of newcomers, reinforcement programmes and the commitment to vocational training.
An investmentofEUR\u00a0302.5 million is also planned for 2026, 5% more than in the previous year, mainly to strengthen personal and material resources.
On the other hand, the allocation for infrastructure will be EUR 130.5 million, which will be used for new construction, improvement and equipment under the 2030 Education Building Plan.
Throughout 2026, the new Basque Vocational Training Strategy 2030will also be launched , with an initial investment of EUR 65 million, although more than 325 are expected to be mobilized during its duration.
The funding for scholarships and supplementary services will be EUR 151 million by 2026, 9.7% more than this year.
The funding of the Haurreskolak Consortium will be increased by EUR 8.6 million, 11.2%.
