The Department of Education will invest EUR 20 million in improving school canteens and will begin installing six kitchens in schools in the three territories this summer.

The Department of Education has reported that this plan to transform school canteens aims to achieve a "healthier, more sustainable and closer" model.

In addition to building kitchens in the schools themselves, the plan provides for the establishment of "area kitchens" throughout the public network, one of which will be in Basauri and will serve nine public schools in the region.
