UPV/EHU will offer 32 more places in the Basque branch of Medicine for the next course
The University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) will offer 32 additional places for undergraduate studiesin Basque in 2025-2026, as reported on Thursday by this academic institution.
In a statement, the UPV has stated that the achievement of this figure is the result of "collaboration" with the Department of Health and the Department of Science, Universities and Innovation of the Basque Government and the "commitments" made by both parties.
In accordance with these commitments, the Government will respond to the needs arising from the increase in places in order to "guarantee"the necessary conditions relating to infrastructure, human resources and clinical practices.
In this way, measures will be taken, inter alia, to enable students to receive classes in Basque in undergraduate clinical practices. In total, 200 placeswill be offered in Basque and 200 in Spanish.
Thus, the Minister of Health of the Basque Government, Alberto Martínez, asked the UPV/EHU to offer an additional 40 places in Basque instead of the 16 originally planned by the university, so the agreement has been reached halfway, since UPV then argued that the facilities should be renovated and that Basque teachers should be found in the teaching units of the hospitals, "which is not always easy," said Rector Joxerramon.
