One association has accused Lamine Yamal of hiring people with achondroplasia for a party
"When a person with social influence participates in these cases, the harm is even greater, because discrimination is transmitted to society (especially to young people). We must eradicate the objectification of different people and educate them in respect and equity," says the Association of People with Enanism (ADEE), Acondroplasia and other Skeletal Dysplasia.
The Association of People with Enanism (ADEE), an organization of the Spanish Confederation of Persons with Physical and Organic Disabilities (COCEMFE), has announced measures against footballer Lamine Yamal for hiring persons with this disability to encourage her 18th birthday party.
The organization has condemned the events in a statement and announced "legal and social actions to protect the dignity of persons with disabilities ".
For ADEE, what happened at the Barcelona player's 18th birthday party "violates not only existing legislation, but also the fundamental ethical values of a society that wants to be equal and respectful."
According to the association, people with enanism were hired at the party "exclusively for entertainment and claim activities", practices which they consider "unacceptable because they perpetuate stereotypes, fuel discrimination and undermine the image and rights of those suffering from acondroplasia or other skeletal dysplasia and all persons with disabilities".
"When a person with social influence participates in these cases, the harm is even greater, because it is transmitted to society (especially young people) that discrimination is acceptable. We must eradicate the objectification of different people and educate them in respect and equity," said ADEE President Carolina Puente.
