The Bizkaia Civil Guard has arrested a criminal group accused of fraud and money-laundering for defrauding a billiard woman with bank details of more than 15,000 euros. The criminals told the woman that they were employees of the financial institution and made at least 23 charges on her card.
The woman filed a complaint with the National Police in Jaca about an alleged fraud. The victim allegedly received an SMS with a link from her bank stating that she would not be able to use the card from a certain date. So she entered the link and made the necessary arrangements for the members of the criminal group.
The next day, the victim received a call from a woman who told her she was a bank employee, asked her to access the online banking app eta and enter a code several times. After interrupting the call, the victim contacted her bank and asked to cancel the four cards associated with the account.
It was too late, however, for the fraudsters had alreadycharged him on the card, spending more than 15,221 euros.
The Civil Guard found that no charges were made from physical stores, but from online stores. The criminals paid for flights from Peru, bought tickets for shows and made payments for high-end mobile phones.
Having examined all this, the Civil Guard obtainedthe identificationof nine telephone lines and seven e-mails . The Civil Guard of Bizkaia concluded that behind all this was a criminal group of at least eight persons , five of them in Peru and three in Spain, who were intercepted in Madrid.
When the agents moved to Madrid, the fraudsters were investigated for alleged fraud, money-laundering and membership of a criminal group, and requested international assistance in locating the remaining criminals.
