The new law, which entered into force at midnight from Saturday to Sunday, allows those born in 2007 or beyond to be banned from smoking in the Maldives. The ban imposed by the Government is pioneering in the world.

The new regulation has also raised the minimum age for the purchase of tobacco products from 18 to 21 years, and the age for each purchase will henceforth have to be checked.
