Iran reopens airspace after nearly five hours closed; tension with the US is high
U.S. President Donald Trump has told his advisers that military action against Iran should be "quick and blunt," according to NBC News.
The Iranian authorities have reopened airspace after a suspension of approximately five hours, according to data from the specialized platform FlightRadar24. The aeronautical warning (NOTAM) has ended and several flights have returned to Tehran. The closure of airspace has forced many operations to be suspended, diverted or delayed.
During the NOTAM period, only international flights with express authorization have been allowed to land and take off. It has been reopened in the context of threats from the United States and regional tension.
The closure of airspace coincides with Donald Trump's warnings that he has threatened to attack Iran in recent days if anti-government protests did not stop attacks on people. The White House has stressed that "diplomacy is always the first option," and Trump himself said on Wednesday that "Iran's deaths have stopped."
At the same time, the United States has issued security alerts in several countries in the Middle East. The Qatari embassy recommends limiting non-essential travel to the Al Udeid air base, while Kuwait temporarily restricts the movement of personnel to various military facilities. Washington has bases in Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Jordan.
Likewise, the US Embassy in Jerusalem has urged Israeli citizens to review their travel plans because of current tensions. Washington has urged its citizens to leave Iran, a recommendation to which the governments of Spain, Italy, and the United Kingdom, among others, have joined in announcing the temporary closure of the embassy in Tehran.
According to NBC News, Trump has told his national security team that, if a military operation is carried out, it should strike a final blow, but that he is concerned about Iran 's responsiveness. For his part, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has called for a diplomatic exit and urged Trump not to repeat the "mistake" of the attacks on Iran's nuclear facilities in June 2025.
