EH Bildu has agreed with the Spanish Government to extend social protection measures throughout 2026
The decree to be adopted by the Council of Ministers in the coming days shall continue a series of measures directly affecting families in a disadvantaged socio-economic situation.
EH Bildu has reached an agreement with the Spanish Government to maintain social protection measures by 2026. The commitment will be approved in the next few days by the Council of Ministers and reflected in a decree extending the protective measures that expired on 31 December.
The agreed measures includethe prohibitionofevictions for vulnerable families without other housing , the non-suspension of basic supplies (electricity, water and gas) and the extension of the electric social bond, as reported by the coalition.
The agreement comes after weeks of negotiations in which EH Bildu has stressed that the continuation of these measures will provide stability and security for people and families in vulnerable situations.
EH Bildu's congressional spokeswoman, Mertxe Aizpurua, has stated that this social support responds to demands from many social and collective sectors that called for its maintenance from 2025.
EH Bildu believes that the extension will have a direct impact on the Basque Country and the Spanish State and will offer certainty and tranquillity to households with the greatest economic difficulties.
The Basque group has also advanced that it will continue to work during the legislature to make progressin areas such as labour, food or access to housing, which are essential in order to guarantee decent living conditions.
