Otegi has claimed the "unitary list" of Hego Euskal Herria to "speak as a people" in the Spanish elections
Otegi, speaking at the general assembly of EH Bildu.
The General Coordinator of EH Bildu, Arnaldo Otegi, has again defended the "unitary list" of Hego Euskal Herria with a view to the General Elections that may be knocking on the door. In his view, the "debate" is "when" the\u00A0votes will take place, "with what objectives and proposals the political forces will address them."
This reflection has been made by Otegi at the general assembly of EH Bildu, which in Bilbao, in the Bizkaia Aretoa, has brought together more than 500 members to share the challenges for 2026 and to continue the commitments made at the political conference held in September in San Sebastián — to present the conclusions of the National Dialogue launched to raise awareness of the concerns of citizens and actors — which, in Otegi's view, will be "key" in many areas.
The idea of a unitary list is not new to EH Bildu, but the General Coordinator has argued that it should be brought back to the fore. He has stressed that EH Bildu's proposal "transcends the territorial divide" and offers the citizens of Hego Euskal Herria "the opportunity to speak as a people." "Our proposal offers the opportunity for the Spanish elections to express the Basque democratic and national will."
In statements to the media following the conclusions of the EH Bildu National Dialogue, Otegi has explained that the concerns and challenges facing citizens "do not correspond to the issues that the elites put on the table in the public square" and has stressed that EH Bildu will support the former "in the coming months and years" in the "important decisions"that EH Bildu will have to make." In the face of authoritarianism or the dynamics of national liberation or the democratic defence of Euskal Herria, we are prepared to do so. "
In conclusion, Otegi referred to the international situation in his agreement and explained that they will define their position at the Political Bureau next Monday.
