Eudel extends budgets for the first time in 40 years with the abstention of EH Bildu
EH Bildu announced yesterday that the councillors of the abertzale coalition intended to reject the budget by abstaining on today's vote because they disagreed with the process of electing the new director promoted by the PNV. Eudel's president, Esther Apraiz, has expressed her "institutional disappointment" at the extension and has warned that this will "hinder" the implementation of various projects.
The Association of Basque Municipalities, Eudel, will have to extend its budgets forthe first time in 40 years, since EH Bildu has abstained from voting on the 2026 Accounts today. The support of the PNV and the PSE has not been enough to achieve the three-fifths qualified majority needed to take the accounts forward, and the Association of Basque Municipalities will have to operate with the extended budget of 2026.
This Thursday's general assembly in Zumarraga has been attended by 925 municipal representatives, 60% of whom needed the support to move forward, but they have narrowly not come out, 59% voted for them.
The budget for 2026 was EUR 5.3 million and was approved by a majority last December by the Executive Committee, the 15-member governing body comprising the mayors of the PNV, EH Bildu, PSE/EE and independent mayors.
The municipal leader of EH Bildu, Onintze Oleaga, announced yesterday the intention of the mayors of the abertzale coalition to reject the budget by abstaining on today's vote because they disagreed with the process of electing the new director promoted by the PNV .
The President of Eudel and Mayor of Derio (PNV), Esther Apraiz, has expressed her "institutional disappointment" at the extension and has warned that this will "make it difficult" to carry out various projects. She has lamented that "today we have not given the measure of shared responsibility." Henceforth, she has called for "a calm, calm, profound and serious debate so that this does not happen again" because "it is not the model we have followed so far, that is the model of agreements and cooperation."
The PNV has reproached EH Bildu for having "unjustifiably" blocked Eudel's budgets for his "inability to agree," and has warned that "political tactical decisions" will have "direct consequences" for the Basque municipalities.
At the endof the meeting, the Vice-President of E Udel and Mayor of Azpeitia (EH Bildu), Nagore Alkorta , has stated that it was her will to be able to vote for Eudel's budgets, but she has said that "it has not been possible in our egoer mouths." "From the very first moment we put the PNV as a premise that the process of exhaustion of the Directors-General should be done transparently."
The PSE-EEbelieves that the "blockade" caused by EH Bildu in Eudel "can only be attributed to reasons beyond the association of municipalities, linked to electioneering tacticism full of inconsistencies."
