Alain Iriart has been elected president of the Basque Centre
The party of the left abertzale of the capital (Lapurdi) has been imposed on Jean-Rene Etchegaray, president for nine years. Iriarte has won the presidency in the second vote, the first in which no candidate has obtained an absolute majority.
