Trump has extended TikToki's separation period from China by 90 days
U.S. President Donald Trump has extended the deadline given to TikTok by another 90 days to break up with the Chinese company ByteDance and be able to continue operating in the United States.
That law was passed during Joe Biden's tenure, and TikTok forced him to find a non-Chinese investor. Indeed, the deadline expired on January 20, the day Trump took office. However, the current president has approved extensions to allow more time for implementation.
Trump has previously declared that TikTok is a "weak spot" for him, as it helped him to have a positive image among young people during the election campaign.
White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt also referred to the issue this week. "As she has said several times (Trump) does not want TikTok to disappear. The extension will last 90 days and the administration will work to close this agreement and allow Americans to continue using TikTok, ensuring that their data are protected," she explained.
