Ordizia has described Sunday's riots as "unacceptable" and has called for the holidays to be lived "with respect"

The Ordizia City Council Spokespersons Board, with the support of all the political groups, has agreed to an institutional declaration declaring "unacceptable"the incidents in Gandea, as well as calling for "respect" for the Ordizia festivities, in which four Ertzainas were injured, two of whom had to be hospitalized. 

The text adopted states that coexistence 'requires respect and responsibility' and stresses that 'it is not acceptable for anyone to take a stand against the citizens'.

Similarly, ordiziarras "have the right to live without fear and to enjoy the feast, and if this right is violated, the necessary measures must be taken with regard to those responsible".

"It is unacceptable what happened on Saturday night to Sunday in Ordizia and it is serious that they have been injured by these attacks," they have said, while expressing their "solidarity and support for the people who were in a festive atmosphere and who were attacked," as well as "the security officers who came to do their job, who were attacked."

Finally, they have recalled that Ordizia is "on the verge" of celebrating the holidays, so political groups see it as "essential" to call for "the holidays to be lived in an honest manner and with the respect of all people".

The Ertzaintza has made a second arrest in connection with the incidents. The two detainees remain in police custody pending trial and the investigation remains open, sources from the Basque Government's Department of Security have reported.

The ELA union has requested an urgent meeting of the Ertzaintza Committee on Occupational Safety and Health to analyse what happened and to urge the Basque Government to take measures to prevent a similar situation from recurring, a request made by the union through a letter sent to the Security Adviser of the Basque Government, Bingen Zupiria.

For its part, the Professional Union of the Ertzaintza (SIPE) has denounced that the Ertzaintza "is acting on its own in the street, without sufficient means, without real political protection and without the necessary legal protection".

On Sunday, the unions of the Ertzaintza ESAN and Euspel expressed their support for the injured colleagues in the two notes. In addition, the ESAN denounced the "serious lack of material resources and real political protection." The "improvisation and institutional neglect" that the police "put at risk," Euspel criticized.

For her part, PPCongresswoman Ana Morales believes that the attacks suffered by the Ertzainas should be a "milestone" for the security policy of the "Pradales Government". At a press conference in Bilbao, the PP representative expressed her solidarity and support for the Ertzainas "who have been the victims of an ambush and lynching because they lacked resources".
