Europe is ready to help organize a summit between Zelensky, Trump and Putin

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Council President Antonio Costa, and five other European leaders said on Saturday in a joint statement that they are ready to host a summit between US President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski, and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"As President Trump has planned, the next step must be to continue the talks. We are also ready to cooperate with Trump and Zelensky to hold a trialogue with European support," says the joint statement issued by Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putinfollowing the meeting in Alaska.

The signatory European leaders include French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

Trump telephoned Zelensky this morning and several European leaders, including Von der Leyen, to explain the details of his meeting with Putin.

"The leaders welcome Trump's efforts to stop the massacre in Ukraine, end the war initiated by Russia and achieve a just and lasting peace, "the statement said.

"Ukraine must have security guarantees to effectively protect its sovereignty and territory. We welcome Trump's willingness to provide security guarantees," they added.

The coalition of 31 countriescommitted to greater support for Ukraine  has been "ready to act actively" in this conflict and has stressed that no restrictions can be placed on the Ukrainian army or on the cooperation of other countries: "Russia cannot prevent Ukraine from moving towards the European Union and NATO. "

EU leaders have insisted that it is up to Ukraine to make decisions on its territory, as' international borders cannot be changed by force '.

They are also committed to "maintaining pressure on Russiaby strengthening sanctions and extending economic measures. " 

"Ukraine has secured our solidarity as we work to find a peace that guarantees the security of Ukraine and Europe," the statement stresses.

In recent months, Zelensky has repeatedly called for a leadership meeting with Putin and supported Trump's proposal to hold a summit between Ukraine, the US, and Russia.

"Ukraine needs peace, not a break."

Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski has responded to US President Donald Trump's statement by stressing that his country is not seeking"another pause between Russian invasions, "but a genuine and lasting peacethat guarantees long-term security. Hori has stressed that the involvement of Europe and the United States is essential.

Indeed, at a potential trialogue summit, Trump has explained that he would seek "a peace agreement with Russia rather than a simple ceasefire, "a statement supported by the Ukrainian president.

Zelenski also mentioned that any decision on territorial issues can only be taken with the participation of Ukraine, closing the door to possible concessions negotiated behind Kiev at future international meetings.
