A caravan of more than 200 taxis will protest against VTCs in Bilbao on Monday
Taxi drivers are demanding effective controls on Uber and Cabify, while the taxi federation has supported their claim, even though they have not joined the mobilization.
On Monday, September 8, more than 200 taxis will protestin Bilbaoin a caravan organized by the Union of Self-employed Professionals and Workers (UPTA) . Taxi drivers are calling on the authorities to carry out real checks and inspections to monitor the VTC services, mostly provided by Uber and Cabify .
The Federation of Taxis , on the other hand, has decided not to join the protest despite agreeing with these proclamations, according to which they will wait until the end of the moratorium on licences scheduled for May 2026 to mobilize, although they publicly support the need to control and supervise the VTCs.
Already 226 taxi drivershave joined the protest, pointing out that their intention is not to collapse the city, but to listen to their voice, among whose criticisms is also theobligationof taxi drivers to register in the mobile app of the Bilbao City Council.
The caravan will cross \u00A0 between 11:00 and 15:00 and will passbefore theBasque Government ,Diputación Foraland Ayuntamiento , among others, to make visible their claims and to put pressure on the institutions to take action on the activity of the VTC.
