The unemployment rate in the Basque Country fell in the second quarter to 5.7%, with 13,200 fewer unemployed
Over the past year, the number of employed persons has increased by 17,600 and the unemployment rate has fallen from 7.5% to 5.7%.
The unemployment rate in the Basque Country stood at 5.7% in the second quarter of this year, 1.3 points lower than in the previous quarter (13,200 fewer unemployed), according to data compiled by the Basque Institute of Statistics, Eustat.
The number of employedpersons has increased by 18,900 and the activity rate (including the population aged 16 and over) has remained at 56 per cent in the second quarter.
Thus, the number of unemployed stands at 61,100 and the number of employed stands at 1,010,400.
Compared to the previous quarter (the first of 2025), unemployment among men and women has fallen by one and a half points. The maleunemployment rate has fallen by 5.3% and the female unemploymentrate by one point to 6.1%. The youth unemployment rate (16-24 years) has fallen by six tenths to 12.4%.
By territory, compared to the last quarter, the unemployment rate in Bizkaia fell 1.3 points, to 6.7 per cent, in Gipuzkoa it fell 1.6 points to 4.1 per cent, and in Álava the unemployment rate was 5.6 per cent, half a point lower than in the first quarter.
Gipuzkoa has the highest occupancy rate (73.6 per cent), followed by Álava (72.7 per cent) and Bizkaia (70.6 per cent).
By sector, the number of employed persons has increased in the services sector (1.9 per cent), industry (1.7 per cent) and construction (3.3 per cent), while the primary sector (3.2 per cent) has decreased.
