The works council has reported that Maderas de Llodio has started firing workers
Workers have said that there are "viable alternatives" to maintaining jobs and that they will continue to fight.
The management of Maderas de Llodio has started firing workers, as reported by the works council in a statement released this afternoon, who have been on indefinite strike since 22 September to denounce the Employment Regulation Dossier (ERE) that will result in the dismissal of 39 of the 151 workers at the plant.
The Commission has explained that the company opened a deadline by allowing workers to join the ERE voluntarily, and after that period, without sending any notification or redundancy letter , it has begun to pay compensation directly to the workers concerned.
On the other hand, the workers have held a meeting today with representatives of the Basque Government, whose position has also been described as unacceptable, not least because the Department of Industry has not even proposed the possibility of intervening to bring the situation back on track.
Finally, workers have said that there are "viable alternatives" to maintaining jobs and that they will continue to fight. They have called a demonstration for next Friday in Llodio at 6.30 p.m.
