Bengoetxea calls for institutional respect for the UPV and calls for an urgent meeting of the lehendakari
This has been answered by the Rector of the University of the Basque Country to Councillor Pérez Iglesias, who has denied in the Basque Parliament that the public university receives less money than it should.
The rector of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), Joxerramon Bengoetxea, on Tuesday called for institutional respect for the public university and called for an urgent meeting with the president, Imanol Pradales, so that he could present "in detail" the report on the needs of his team.
Bengoetxea has issued this request in a statement, after the Minister of Science, Universities and Research, Ignacio Pérez Iglesias, has denied that the UPV/EHU receives less money than it should, despite the fact that this is confirmed by the rectoral group, the unions and the Student Council.
After hearing the counsellor, the rector has asked for institutional respect for the UPV/EHU and the university community represented by its rectoral team. En addition, he has requested an urgent meeting with the lehendakari, Pérez Iglesias himself and the Director of Finance and Finance, Noël d'Anjou, to know "in detail" the report on the "quantified" needs of the UPV/EHU.
In his view, the amount allocated\ u00A0 is not enough to carry out the digitization of the university, maintain the infrastructure, attract talent and manage the "growing" academic offer. He has also stressed that it is not enough to cope with research activity and has ensured that so far it has been answered "with the commitment and overeffort of the entire university community."
Bengoetxea has insisted that the UPV has reached the current situation due to "permanent lack of funding" and has stated that he does not understand "how the Counsellor can deny this evidence."
