Pérez Iglesias highlights the "firm commitment" of the Basque Government to the UPV
The Vice-Minister for Science, Universities and Innovation has stressed that the regular contribution of the Basque Government to the UPV/EHU in 2026 is EUR 339 million, 6.9% more than this year, and has even explained that the amount allocated to the public university is the highest in its history.

Pérez Iglesias presented this morning to the Finance Committee of the Basque Parliament the draft budget of the Department of Science, Universities and Innovation of the Basque Government for 2026,for the amount of 653.3 million euros, 6.6% higher than this year's.
The Councillor has explained that the draft budget presented demonstrates the Basque Government's commitment to university, science and innovation.
After UPV/EHU Rector Joxerramon Bengoetxea denounced last week that the draft budget presented by the Government will lead to paralysis at the University, Pérez Iglesias has defended the coalition government's effort to strengthen the public university.
The Department of Science, Universities and Innovation will allocate 495.2 million to the university system and other higher education centres (Musikene, GOI, IMH, etc.), 151.6 million to research and innovation and 6.3 million to other fields.
