The Department of Tourism, Trade and Consumption of the Basque Government has requested the Airbnb tourist rental platform to withdraw700 advertisements for not including the mandatory registration numbers and has warned that otherwise it will be punished in accordance with consumer regulations.
This was reported this Friday by Counsellor Javier Hurtado at the monitoring session held in the Basque Parliament, where he specified that from 1 July the single register of tourist flats promoted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda will enter into force to exchange data with platforms and detect illegal housing, as well as to dismiss it.
The Basque Country has its own (Reate) register of all tourist accommodation and is now interoperability with a single window, so from 1 July both registers will be mandatory.
The Councillor has clarified that all homes wishing to operate as tourist accommodation in the Basque Country must be registered in Reat and, if advertised on digital platforms, must also be registered in the State register. "If they are not registered and updated on online platforms, they may also be punished by cessation of activity", he has warned.
