The singer and leader of Doctor Deseo, Francis Diez Rojo, has been elected this year's Big Week champion in Bilbao and will be accompanied as txupinera by Olatz Agirre Sagarna, comparator of Txori Barrot.
The 45th edition of the Aste Nagusia in Bilbao will be held from 16 to 24 August, according to the Bilbao City Council.
Francis has been unanimously elected by the Bilbao Festival Joint Committee to act as a champion and will be responsible for starting the big festival in Bilbao by reading the message from the Arriaga Theatre.
Born in Uribarri, he is described by the City Council as a "pure bilbaine." The Doctor Deseo group has for decades filled the stage with emotion, strength and poetry as a "passionate admirer" of Bilbao and its Big Week.
On the other hand, Olatz Agirre Sagarna, a member of the comparisons Txori Barrote, has been chosen by Bilboko Konpartsak to launch the txupin. Born in 1969 in Santutxu, she is a professional delineator and works in the Bilbao City Council.
