The NGO SOS Racismo in Gipuzkoa has called for the Ertzaintza and local police to stop "carrying out ethnic profiling checks".
In a statement, SOS Racismo recalled that the European Court of Human Rights has just condemned France for "carrying out racist controls".
"Control, request for documentation and searches, we are used to seeing them from the Ertzaintza and local police, and they do so according to the ethnic profile," the NGO said.
SOS Racismo has added that "it is only this excuse sometimes used to investigate crimes, a mere excuse", and has denounced in this context that this practice, which is "customary", is "contrary to human rights".
That is why, once again, he has called for "an end to this practice and a clear regulation on it, because it is the responsibility of the authorities and the police to comply with it".
