The Murcian municipality of Torre Pacheco is currently in the headposts of the State due to clashes between extreme right-wing groups and migrant neighbours, allegedly carried out on the pretext of an attack by people of foreign origin on a neighbour. Arracismo has erupted in the municipality of Murcia and the extreme right is trying to take advantage of this situation.
Six people have been arrested over the weekend in the Murciana town of Torre Pacheco in a police operation to stop the riots that have taken place in recent days. The Government delegate in Murcia, Mariola Guevara, has confirmed that five of the detainees are Spanish and one Maghreb.
Among the detainees are three minors accused of assaulting a Moroccan citizen and damaging the sound equipment of a journalist, who was attacked, and two others who were arrested when they were caught travelling in groups on the public road carrying bicycle helmets in a suspicious manner.
Far-right groups have protestedagainst the presence of migrants in Torre Pacheco after social media reports that a young man from the Maghreb had attacked a 70-year-old man.
In recent hours, objects have also been thrown at Civil Guard agents in a neighbourhood inhabited by a large number of Moroccan citizens, although the Government delegate has specified that this has been a small group.
The police operation has been strengthened with the local police, and patrols are in place to ensure security and prevent further incidents.
At the political level, Sintre has called for an investigation to determine whether there is a link between social media messages, the VOX party and incidents of violence in the country.
