Today there will be rallies in front of the city councils to denounce the latest sentence against the Euskera, convened by UEMA
The Commonwealthof Basque Municipalities (UEMA) has declared that it is serious because it questions the law itself and the official status of the Basque Country.
"We have analysed all the possibilities and are prepared to defend the Basque Municipal Law where it belongs, even in the European courts, if the legal services see the opportunity to do so," said UEMA President Martin Aramendi , who also recalled that the Basque municipal law was a "milestone" for the Basque municipalities because it allowed "to overcome symmetrical bilingualism and prioritize the Basque language."
Aramendi has stated that the Euskera needs "justice"and that the Supreme Court's ruling"is not justice, but condemnation of the Euskera to the second degree. " \A0
In this context, Aramendi believes that the Supreme Court's ruling should be used to "build bridges" and requires a "joint response"from political parties, Basque actors and even citizens.
The ruling of the Spanish Supreme Court confirms the ruling of the High Court of Justice of the Basque Country, which annulled several articles of the Basque Municipal Law, denying municipalities the possibility of giving priority to the Basque Country.
