A group of young people have slightly injured two Ertzainas in Azpeitia
A group of young people have caused riots in Azpeitiaand have attacked local police and police officers , so the Ertzaintza has opened proceedings for the incidents.
The altercations began around 4 a.m. on Saturday, after a Ertzaintza patrol identified a young man and proposed a fine for painting on urban furniture, and shortly afterwards a large group of young people went to the local police units and attacked the officers.
Finally, a city councillor has had to mediate to calm the situation and disperse the group.
Two Ertzainas have been slightly injured in the incidents, so the Ertzaintza has opened proceedings and the case will be referred to the judicial authority.
"The result of neglect"
The Basque Police Solidarity Union (EUSPEL) has denounced the situation of the Azpeitia Municipal Police and stressed that what happened is due to "neglect, improvisation and lack of investment".
For this reason, the union has demanded four measures : firstly, immediate investigation and identification of those responsible; secondly, the imposition of criminal liability on the perpetrators; thirdly, the immediate provision of technical and human means; and finally,effective and real institutional protection for the agents .
