Boise will once again become the stage of Basque culture with the return of Jaialdi
With an extensive program, the eighth edition of the Boise Festival returns, and from July 29 to August 3, Basque music, gastronomy, dance and rural sport will take over the city.
After ten years, Boise (Idaho, USA) will once again become the scene of Basque culture. Jaialdi 2025is back, and as in previous editions, the organizers of the Basque Centre Euzkaldunak plan to bring together thousands of people.
In six days, dozens of activities will complete the festival program (see the full program here), combining music, dance, gastronomy and rural sport, in an initiative aimed at expanding Basque culture and compiling the diaspora.
There is no doubt that the concerts scheduled for the weekend on the stage of the Expo Idahowill be the most popular, including Neomak, Gatibu, Amuma Says, Xabi Aburruzaga, Añorga Dantzariak and Oinkari.
And, of course, the big rural sports party Sports Night will be the other big date, where several leading athletes will meet, including Karmele Gisasola, Nerea Arruti, Iker Vicente, Julen Alberdi, Aitzol Atutxa or Gari Garmendia.
The Jaialdi, which was born in 1987 and started as a simple event, has been growing from event to event, bringing together 40,000 people. This year's edition will be the eighth. The 2020 event was cancelled due to the pandemic.
Institutional visits
The event, which brings together the festival and the proclamation, also seeks to strengthen relations between the two peoples, so this year the Basque Government will send a large delegation to Boise, led by its president, Imanol Pradales.
In a statement, the Presidency explained that the official trip of Pradales will combine "an intense political and cultural agenda in a clear commitment to the international recognition and projection of the Basque Country".
"The objectives of the Basque Government are, on the one hand, to strengthen institutional relations with the authorities of the State of Idaho and the city of Boise, and, on the other, to recognize and support the Basque community in the United States, which has been the natural ambassador of Basque culture and values for many decades," the Executive stresses in the note.
