They denounce the "irregular and hasty" approval of the tunnel project under the river

The allegations submitted to the construction of the tunnel under the Ria have complained that the Provincial Council of Bizkaia has approved this project when the deadline for the submission of these allegations is still open.

In a statement, the Subfluubial No platform and the\u00A0 Artaza Institute  and the parents' Romo School  have described the decision as "irregular, opaque and hasty".

The note criticizes the fact that the project has been approved without waiting for the resolution  of the Basque Water Agency (URA) , which "violates the principle of prudence in such a work".

Lamiako Wetland

They have also denounced the "threat" posed by the work to the Lamiako wetland, the consequences of the explosions necessary for the construction of the tunnel, both in the surrounding aquifers and in the surrounding buildings, and the33% increasein traffic , all of which "collides" with the recommendations to prevent climate change.

That is why the above-mentioned associations are calling for the withdrawal of the project and for independent studies on its impact on health, mobility and ecosystems, as well as greater transparency and public participation in the process.

Protest, climbing a tree

An environmental activist today climbed a\ u00A0tree in the Artaza Park in Leioa (Bizkaia) with the intention of spending several days there condemning the tunnel project under the Ria .

The Subfluubiala Ez platform has issued a statement announcing this action and supporting the environmental activist. The citizens' platform has insisted that this is a "very damaging project, especially because of the mobility model it promotes, which will attract more cars."

In his view, daily traffic will increase by "thousands of cars, resulting in increased pollution and greenhouse gas emissions."

In addition, the anti-project organization has stated that "it will lead to a drastic increase in public spending of more than EUR 500 million".
