The Irun City Council is working on Operation Return, which will speed up road traffic in the city
The City Council launched its action plan last Thursday, the main objective of which is to give priority to access to local vehicles trying to reach Irun.
The Irun City Council has already launched, for the third year in a row, Operation Return, which aims to alleviate the traffic congestion of carsinthe city during these summer days.
Mayor Cristina Laborda stressed at a press conference this Tuesday that "this operationprioritizes accessto local vehicles that want to reach Irun . Stressing the importance of interinstitutional collaboration, Laborda said that "in these punctual moments of increased traffic intensity, it makes it possible to significantly reduce traffic jams and blocking points in some areas."
In recent years, in Irun there have been long delays at the border, and in order to remedy this, the City Council has in recent years launched a special Return Operation to speed up traffic.
The Municipal Police, in collaboration with the Ertzaintza, aim to speed up the traffic of vehicles from the GI-636 to Lapurdi, preventing the entry of vehicles from the city centre, eliminating various pedestrian crossings and making changes to traffic lights, both at the border access to Santiago and at the Behobia.
Avoid the variant and the AP-8.
In addition, a security perimeter will be established around the city centre, from the link between the AP-8 and the south belt to the hospital roundabout, to ensure traffic in the city centre, and to prevent any vehicles wishing to cross the border from entering the city.
In anticipation of a large influx of vehicles, local police officers will ensure that the city does not collapse. And as a general recommendation, it is recommended not to use the city variant or the GI-636 and the AP-9 motorway in the direction of the border from the interior of Irun, where heavy traffic is expected these days.
