The Basque Government will test the effectiveness of the Es-Alert system on 2 October
The test will be conducted in and around Balmaseda. The devices located in that municipality will hear an alarm sound and a text message will be sent indicating that it is a test and not a real danger situation.
On 2 October, the Basque Government will conduct a simulation of the Es-Alert system for warning citizens of major emergencies or disasters, which will be carried out in and around Balmaseda and will serve to verify the effectiveness of the system in the Basque Country.
The Basque Country Emergency Coordination Centre (SOS Deiak) will send a warning to the mobile phones of the residents of Balmaseda and the surrounding area. An alarm will be heard first on the mobile phones and then a relief message will be sent indicating that this is a test and not a real risk situation.
This simulation will directly reach all terminals connected to the antennas in the warning zone and with the possibility of receiving "Civil Protection Pre-alerts".
After hearing the alarm, those receiving the mobile alerts will be able to read the following message :
112 SOS DEIAK EUSKADI MASS ALERT ACTIVATION TEST
This is a test message from the alert system that will be sent to the public on mobile phones in the event of an emergency disaster.
After reading the message, press OK to delete it from the screen.
The Basque Government wants to encourage citizens to download the SOS Deiak app, which will allow users to communicate an incident to the only emergency centre, which will mobilise the necessary security and civil protection resources, improving the efficiency of emergency management.
In addition, this tool, which, among other functionalities, has the name "Reverse 112", is a system of early warning for the population that allows specific warnings of risk situations depending on the location of the persons concerned.
