Bizkaibus will accept the Mugi card from Gipuzkoa from today
In this way, users of the three territories will be able to move with their usual card in Bizkaia through an integrated and homogeneous payment system.
Bizkaibus will accept the Mugi card from Gipuzkoa as a valid payment channel throughout its network from Thursday, December 18, according to sources from the Bizkaia Council.
This measure concludes the process of interoperability of public transport in Bizkaia, allowing users of the three Historical Territories of the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country (CAPV) to travel through Bizkaia with their usual card, through an integrated and homogeneous payment system.
According to the foral institution, this progress represents "a decisive step towards a fully connected public transport system in Bizkaia, enhancing territorial cohesion and improving the experience of users" who will be able to use their usual card with the same guarantees in different operators.
In addition, the decision is "a further milestone" in the way in which any citizen holding a transport ticket from any CSC territory can afford to pay with his or her own card in any of the Bizkaia transport routes, even if it does not belong to his or her original territory.
"In this way, the so-called interoperability is realized, a commitment contained in the Basque Law on Sustainable Mobility, which provided for its full implementation before the end of this year," they say.
The implementation of interoperability has been coordinated by the Bizkaia Transport Consortium, as the manager of the validation system and holder of the Bizkaia transport card, as well as the system compensation centre.
