The big fire in Riglos is under control, and the evacuees have returned home
The Government of Aragon has lowered the alert to the minimum level of civil protection following the return of the last evacuees to their homes, although the operation continues to work to establish a perimeter of 14,500 hectares.
The forest firein Riglos, Huesca, has been officially declared controlled. Santa Cruz de la Seros 74 residents have returned to their homes, the last remaining uninhabited town, and the Integrated Operational Coordination Centre (POPRC) and the Government of Aragon have lowered the emergency alert to level 0, the minimum of civil protection.
Since the flames broke out on 10 August, the gravity of the situation hasforced the evacuation of 1,046 people from 19 villages, two campsites and a summer camp, which was mainly housed in the towns of Jaca and Ayerbe.
Although the fire has been declared controlled, emergency teams continue to work to secure the perimeter and prevent possible resumes. Authorities have warned that it will be normal in the next few days to see smoke in the affected area.
Some 14,500 hectares have been burned and it has already become one of the largest forest fires of recent times in Aragon. According to technicians from the Directorate-General for Emergencies , the fire will not be considered extinguished until at least next weekand the final closure will be linked to cooling work.
On the other hand, the A-1603 will continue to be cut off from the exit of Santa Cruz de la Seros towards the monasteries of San Juan de la Peña until September 15.
