Following the tsunami risk in the Pacific as a result of one of the most serious earthquakes ever recorded on the Russian peninsula of Kamchatka (8.8 degrees on the Richter scale), several affected countries, such as Japanand the US, have regained calm and remain alert in Central Americaand South America, although in some cases alarms have been raised.
The earthquake, which caused four major waves , flooded the coast of the Kuril Islands in northern Paramushir, but did not cause casualties, after evacuating some 2,700 people. On the other hand, Japan, one of the countries most affected by the earthquake, has managed to regain calm after several hours of chaos.
