Normalcy in the Pacific after reducing tsunami risk
Russia cancels the tsunami alert and remains alert in Central and South America, although alarms have been removed in most cases.
Following the tsunami risk in the Pacific as a result of one of the most serious earthquakes ever recorded on the Russian peninsula of Kamchatka (8.8 degrees on the Richter scale), several affected countries, such as Japanand the US, have regained calm and remain alert in Central Americaand South America, although in some cases alarms have been raised.
The earthquake, which caused four major waves , flooded the coast of the Kuril Islands in northern Paramushir, but did not cause casualties, after evacuating some 2,700 people. Later, the Russian peninsula suffered a second earthquake , 6.2 degrees on the Richter scale, at 21:56 local time (09:56 GMT), and the epicenter was located 69 kilometres deep, nearly 200 kilometres east of the capital Kamchatka.

On the other hand, Japan, one of the countries most affected by the earthquake, has managed to regain calm after several hours of chaos. The Japanese authorities have cancelled the tsunami risk alert across the Pacific coast, but they continue to recommend caution. On the Japanese coast there have been waves of varying heights that have reached 1.3 metres in Iwat (northeast).
Likewise, US Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem has said that the threat of a severe tsunami "has passed completely," but there are some preventive alerts on the west coast. "We have reduced the tsunami risk that was set forHawaiiand some regions that also affected Alaska. We still have a warning and an alert for the west coast, but we anticipate an impact that may have little impact, "he said.
The tsunami hit the coast of Californiaand was recorded in the tidal wave of Arena Cove, Monterrey and Crescent City.
Mexicohas also cancelled the tsunami alert issued on Tuesday night after assessing sea level on the country's coastline and monitoring what happened at the epicenter of the earthquake.
In Central America, on the other hand, there is an "alert for waves that can reach a height of between 30 centimetres and one metre," according to the Institute of Geosciences of the University of Panama.
