Macron and the EU have expressed support for Spain in the face of Trump's trade threats
Sanchez has expressed gratitude for the calls and messages of support he is receiving from the presidents of the main EU institutions and European partners such as France.
The President of theEuropean Council, Antonio Costa , has conveyed to the head ofthe Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez , "all the solidarity of the European Union" following the threats ofUS President Donald Trump to suspend trade relations with Spain.
The warning issued by the Spanish Government after refusing to use its bases in Rota and Morón for an offensive against Iran came to say that Trump and its administration "do not want any contact with Spain".
The European Commission has also expressed its' full solidarity 'and its' readiness to act if necessary 'to protect the interestsofthe EU. Ursula von der Leyen, Trade Spokesman Olof Gill , has urged Washington to respect the trade agreement reached in July with the President of the European Union.
In the same vein, theVice-President of the European Union, Stephane Sejourne Europe, has warned that any threat to a Member State is "by definition a threat to the European Union as a whole".
French President Emmanuel Macron has joined the demonstrations of support and contacted Sanchez to express France's "European solidarity" under pressure from the White House.
On the other hand, Sanchez has reaffirmed the Government's position on the international crisis and summarised it as "No to war. "
Sanchez has also thanked the presidents of major EU institutions and European partners like France for their messagesof support for Donald Trump's threats to Spain.
