Putin will meet with the US special envoy on Tuesday to discuss Trump's proposal for Ukraine
The Russian president "will hold several meetings today behind closed doors to prepare the course of relations between Russia and the United States."
Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff this Tuesday to discuss US President Donald Trump's proposal to settle the war in Ukraine, which began in February 2022 after the Kremlin tenant signed an invasion order.
"A meeting with Witkoff is scheduled for tomorrow," said Russian Presidency spokesman Dimitri Peskov, who advanced that Putin "will hold several closed meetings today to prepare for tomorrow's meetings between Russia and the United States."
He has also avoided clarifying whether there will be a joint communiqué after the meeting and has refused to comment on the points of the Trump plan or discuss them in the media, reiterating that Moscow intends to address the issue through diplomatic channels and not in the press, as reported by the Russian news agency TASS.
Although Washington has claimed progress in talks with Ukraine, they still face the same obstacles as in previous rounds: the future of the Ukrainian regions under Russian control, the future of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the possibility of Kiev joining NATO.
