A federal court has overturned Trump's ban on granting visas to 75 countries
The measure came into effect in January because, according to the US government, there was a "risk that these immigrants would become a burden on the state."
A court in New York has overturned a decision by the United States earlier this year to deny visas to some immigrants.
As a result of Trump's decision, nationals of 75 s could not enter the United States.
But in Judge Jeannette Vargas's decision today, she declared the ban illegal.
The judge argues in his ruling that the visa ban is "manifestly illegal," and questions the trump administration's justification that applicants from those 75 countries, almost all Latin Americans, are at high risk of becoming an economic burden on the United States.
This rule affected countries in Latin America and the Caribbean such as Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Guatemala, Haiti, Nicaragua and Uruguay.
The visa ban also included Afghanistan, Egypt, Iraq, Iran, Morocco, Nigeria, Russia, Somalia, Thailand and Yemen.
The decision was filed by five Colombian professionals, as well as six Americans, who claimed that the ban harmed their families in Ghana, Jamaica, Guatemala and Ethiopia, according to The New York Times.
The US Government has refused to give any assessment of the judgment, but has said that they will be very demanding of visa applicants.
