The screens of the most Basque Film Festival ever, on
One more year, just ahead of the beginning of the autumn, comes the San Sebastian Festival. For nine days, from today (opening gala, Friday at 20:30) and until next Saturday, 29 halls of the city will project 254 works (179 feature films, 7 medium films, 63 short films and 5 series) in the 73 edition of the largest film festival in the Basque Country.
In the competition for the Golden Shell (best film), for the Silver Shells (best performance by director, protagonist and cast) and for the other major awards to be decided by the jury chaired by J.A. Bayona (best photography and best screenplay), in the Official Section we will see "films of great names", in the words of festival director José Luis Rebordinos, as well as "risky films".
Some of these great names are those of Edward Berger, Alice Wincour, Claire Denis, Agnieszka Holland and Alberto Rodríguez, for example, the filmmakers who will bring to San Sebastian the latest works by Angelina Jolie, Colin Farrell, Tilda Swinton, Angelina Jolie, Louis Garrel, Isaach de Bankolé, Matt Dillon, Antonio de la Torre and Barbara Lennie.
Basque cinema
In this section, the shadow of the Basque cinema will arrive intensely this year: Karmele (Asier Altuna), the series Zeru ahoak (Koldo Almandoz) and the works in Basque Maspalomas (Jose Mari Goenaga and Aitor Arregi), the latter in competition, as well as the third feature film written and directed by the baracaldés Los Domingos Alauda.
However, the Euskera will also be heard beyond the main section, such as in the New Directors section New Age by the hand of Irati Gorostidi and in the Zabaltegi Tabakalera section Variations in the interviews of Lur Olaizola's short film.
A total of 38 Basque films will be seen during the Film Festival, including Lur○ des Iri○ ondo, Lur○ des Iri○ ondo, Don't Stop In Vain (Ing○ e Mendi○ or○), Elo○ de la Iglesia, Adi○ c○ to al C○ ine (Gaizk○ a Urre○ st○ i), Pop○ el (Oier Plaza), Ar○ ar○ gor (H), Talk Torture (Manu Gomez), Torture (Manu Gomez) and The LastIn addition, Klasikoak in theSixteenth restoredby the Basque Film Library and EITB in collaboration (Anjel Lertxundi, 1985), Ehun metro (Alfonso Ungría, 1985), Zergatik panpox (Xabier Elorriaga, 1985) and
