Jon Insausti has been appointed mayor of San Sebastian
Jon Insausti has been appointed new mayor of San Sebastian at an extraordinary plenary session in the City Hall. The 36-year-old PNV councilman has taken over from Eneko Goia, who announced on October 16 his resignation from the mayor's office on the grounds that the ten-year cycle was closed.
At the plenary session, Tomás Izaskun, who will replace PP Councillor Jorge Mota, and Idoia García, the new PNV councillor after leaving Goia, took office, after which the vote took place and Insausti obtained a majority to become the new mayor of San Sebastian.
In recent weeks, Councilwoman Nekane Arzalluz has been mayor, and with the election of Insausti, the PNV has maintained the leadership of the City of San Sebastian.
The new mayor, Donostiarra and Euskaltzale, has been one of the most prominent figures in the municipal government in the last two legislatures, especially because of his management in the field of Culture, Euskera and Tourism. The investiture opens a new phase in the municipal policy of the capital of Guipuzcoana, with the challenge of continuing the project initiated by Goia and strengthening the collaboration between the parties in the City Council.
