The coalition criticizes that Mancisidor "does not have the right level of Euskera" and questions whether the PP has supported his candidacy.

His predecessor, Manuel de Lezertua, formalized his resignation on 19 June, and since then Inés Ibáñez de Maeztu has been an active ombudsman.

Jeltzales and socialists need the support of the nationalist or popular coalition to achieve a qualified majority (three-fifths) in the Basque Parliament, and the former has advanced that it will not support it, while the latter has not yet taken a stand.

His professional career is linked to the defence of human rights and democratic governance, and he has a broad international track record.

Members of the government need a third party, EH Bildu or PP, to appoint Mancisidor as a citizen defender.

Inés Ibáñez de Maeztu has stated that she is waiting for the measures to be taken after the Health Pact in the hope that they will improve the situation. She has also called for a "determined commitment to public policies to ensure the effectiveness of the right to housing".

Manu Lezertua has ceased to serve in the Ararteko, and until his successor is appointed, the current deputy of the Ararteko, Inés Ibáñez de Maeztu, will take office.

According to the Ararteko Act, the appointment must be approved in the Basque Parliament by a three-fifths majority, that is, by 45 of the 75 parliamentarians.
