The workers of Maderas de Llodio began last night in the town hall of the Alavesa town to demand the intervention of public institutions in the face of the 35 redundancies initiated by the company Garnica, whose owner will take 40% of the production from Ayala.
On Friday afternoon, a massive demonstration was held in the streets of Llodio called by the Maderas de Llodio Works Council to denounce the "institutional inaction" and to claim "the defence of employment in Maderas de Llodio and Ayala".
At the end, the workers read a note accusing the company Garnica of making the redundancies "dirty and irresponsible" after a long month of strike and after the end of the consultation period of the ERE. "No dismissal letter or notice. They have been informed that they were staying on the streets, with bank accounts through income (or non-income), "they reproach Garnica.
After stressing that they do not accept the dismissal of Maderas and the outsourcing of production, they have denounced the "passive" attitude of the Basque Government and the Council, as well as the "lack of responsibility towards the citizens and the defence of the region" for "ignoring" the needs and demands of workers.
They have therefore stressed that it is time to take to the streets for a "dignified" future in Ayala. "We will not stand idly by because our generosity is not to accept redundancies, the dissolution of the company and relocation, but to stand by the workers who have been laid off," they said.
