A couple will be tried in San Sebastian on charges of endangering their lives by shaking their two-month-old baby
They are asking for seven years and seven months in prison for a man and a woman. The child was seriously injured by these events in October 2023.
The Public Prosecutor's Office in Gipuzkoa requests seven years and seven months' imprisonment for a couple for endangering their lives by shaking their two-month-old daughter. The events of October 2023 will be tried next Monday in the First Section of the Gipuzkoa Court.
According to the indictment, the parents severely shook the child "at least once," both together or one of them with the consent of the other. As a result, the girl suffered serious injuries, including epileptic status, acute encephalopathy, intracranial hematoma, and hypertension, as well as numerous bleeding in both eyes.
As a result of these injuries, the child had to be admitted to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at Donostia University Hospital with intuitive respiratory assistance. According to the Public Prosecutor's Office, the symptoms the child suffered are a clear indication of "shaken child syndrome", which was at vital risk.
After the incident, the court withdrew parental authority from the parents, who declared the child defenceless and, as a matter of urgency, received him at his uncles' house, who can only contact his daughter through visits supervised by his parents.
