The Basque Country recorded the second highest wage cost in the State in the first quarter of the year
according to data released by the INE, the Basque Country recorded a wage cost of €2,543.50 in the first quarter of this year, the second highest behind Madrid and well above the state average of €2,290.46.
Withregard to the total labour cost, which includes, in addition to wages, social contributions and other expenses, Basque companies assumed an average of EUR 3,538.16 per worker per month. At the state level, the average labour cost was EUR 3,124.55, with an increase of 3.8% over the same period of the previous year and an increase of EUR 1 per month over the previous quarter.
