It should be recalled that the INE placed the wage gap between men and women at 12.81% in 2023.
In the services sector, however, it has risen to 21.5%.
Accordingto a survey by Confebask, the wage gap in the Basque Country has fallen to 9%. Moreover, the survey shows that the data are even better in the industry, even though there are few women in the sector, which is 3%.
It should be recalled that in 2023 the wage gap was 12.81%, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
However, the wage gap between men and women has increased in other sectors, such as services (21.5 per cent).
This increase is directly reflected in the higher wage brackets, where men have a greater presence.
Most of the companies surveyed say they have an equality plan, and 35 percent of the companies that are not obliged have an equality plan, that is, companies with less than 50 employees.
In addition, 7 out of 10 companies have provided equality courses, and women have more promotions than men.
Basque business associations and economic advisor Mikel Torres have welcomed the results, although they have stressed that "there is still a long way to go".
"We cannot be satisfied as long as women's talent remains under-represented on boards of directors (...) Without quotas there is no possible change," Torres said.
For her part, Confebask's president, Tamara Yague, has saidthatprogress is "insufficient," warning of current ideological currents, as Yagüe has stressed thatthese i deologies "polarize" the debate.
